Blood thinners and Dental Care
If you are taking blood thinners such as Warfarin it is important to continue to take this medication according to your doctor's instructions during dental treatment.
You will need to have a blood test within the 24 hours prior to a dental extraction to test for your INR. We will need to know the result prior to the extraction.
You should expect bleeding to take longer than average to stop. You will be provided with a number of sterile gauze packs for you to bite on so as to maintain pressure on the socket. Replace the pack each 30 minutes until bleeding stops.
Ensure that you have someone with you for 24 hours after an extraction.
Contact this office or our after hours number if you have continued bleeding.
